Our Data Principles
It is easy to get lost in the minutiae of privacy policies and terms of service, but what matters most is the values driving the policies.
Warchest works with information that is important to our customers and frequently sensitive to their work. We take that responsibility seriously. These are the principles that guide how we think about customer data:
- Our customers own their data. We are its custodians. Our job is to protect that data, make it useful to our customers, and help them get more value from the information they already have. We want our software to surface insights that help our customers work more effectively and ultimately make Democratic campaigns and committees more competitive.
- Customers should remain in control. Customers should be able to understand what data we have, access it, export it, and, where appropriate, delete it. We want to keep our customers because our services are the best available, so we commit to make it easy to offboard from Warchest.
- We collect and keep only what we need. More data is not automatically better.
- Security is part of the product. Protecting customer data is a fundamental part of the service we provide. We work continuously to reduce the risk of unauthorized access, disclosure, or misuse.
- We are careful about third parties. Modern software depends on outside services that help us operate more effectively and securely. Sometimes that means customer data is processed by third parties on our behalf. When that happens, we try to share only what is necessary and work with providers we trust to handle that information responsibly.
- Transparency matters. Data practices can become complicated quickly. When we make important decisions about how customer data is used, we want those decisions to be understandable.
- New technologies do not change these principles. We may use artificial intelligence and other technologies to improve Warchest and help customers understand their own data. We will not use a customer’s proprietary data to train models for the benefit of third parties without that customer’s permission.
These principles are intended to guide us even in situations our Privacy Policy, Terms of Service, or Data Processing Agreement may not specifically anticipate. Technology will change, our products will change, and new questions will arise. Our underlying obligation remains the same: to act as responsible stewards of the information our customers entrust to us.
